Chatillon-sur-Loire - Decize - Auxerre - Migennes (or vice versa)
Enjoy a splendid, leisurely two-three week cruise through the heart of the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal latéral à la Loire taking in all the famous sights of the region, from splendid châteaux to artisan towns and world-famous vineyards.
This town offers several interesting sites to visit, magnificent walks, many restaurants, bars, supermarkets and a good assortment of shops.

A magnificent place situated on a high hill surrounded by the famous vineyards of the Sancerre wine, where you can wander among its interesting old winding streets and narrow alleys. Renowned for its gastronomy, both food and wines.

This town offers lots of places of interest to visit, magnificent walks, many resaurants, bars, supermarkets and different types of shops.
Classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, La Charité sur Loire was an important stop on the pilgrimage route of Saint Jacques de Compostelle. L'église Notre Dame, (the church) is an absolutely magnificent example of Roman architecture and should not be missed.
Situated on the banks the Loire, the last untamed river in France, Marseilles-les-Aubigny is a very pleasant place to spend a night and the Port de Plaisance is conveniently situated for shops and restuarants. Marseilles-les-Aubigny has, since ancient times, been an active and important trading post transporting a wide range of cargoes, including metal from the Vallée de l'Aubois, lime and cereals from the basin of Beffes and timber from the Tronçais forest.
It’s a very agreeable place to stop overnight and is in a calm and tranquil location. There are a couple of nice restaurants not too far away and a boulangerie in the village. There's a BBQ area and some picnic tables here if wish to use them - you’d need to shop for it before ouy stop for the night as there are no shops here.

This historic town with its Ducal Palace has an attractive mooring and an interesting town centre to explore.

A quiet and relaxing village with just 270 inhabitants and a well equipped mooring place. There are no supermarkets here but there is a boulangerie.

Sitauted at the junction of the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal Latéral à la Loire, and the confluenbce of the Loire and the Aron, Decize is a pretty little town, well worth a stop to explore. The are 3 good supermarkets conveniently placed close to mooring spots so this is the ideal place to get any heavy shopping on board.
A agreeable overnight stop at a pretty Nivernais village. The old settlement, situated on a rocky outcrop is at 201 mètres altitude, offers good views over the valleys of the Aron, the Alène, Canne and of the Nivernais Canal. There are a couple of nice restuarants not too far distant and you can collect bread from the boulangerie (closed Mondays) opposite the moorings.
A leafy and tranquil spot for a relaxing overnight stop. Not a lot here but relax with a drink at the village bar, remembering to put in your bread order for the morning !
The village of Chitry-les-Mines is situated 3 km from the little town of Corbigny, where oyu can find shops and restaurants
The village of Tannay is in the heart of the wine growng area - you mustn't leave without tasting the local dry white wine.
Trhis is a quite little stop - ideal for a relaxing evening on board nad a quiet night's sleep.
This is a lovely place to stop a while and walk or cycle along the towpath and lanes
This is a large village with good shops, cycling, walks and wine-tastings locally
The large village of Champs sur Yonne over the bridge has all facilities and cafe/restaurant on the lovely village square in the old quarter
Cycle along the cyclepaths to Champs sur Yonne for all facilities or to the hilltop through Vaux for wonderful views of the St Bris le Vineux hills and vineyards

There is plenty to do here, besides the traditional sightseeing - cinema, theatre, shopping, museums, bars and restaurants. The museum of Natural History is espcially good for children of all ages and is situated in a 19th century house and garden with exhibitions geared at learning for children.

A pretty little town which is evidently very proud of its floral displays, which are on show throughout the town. Gustave Eiffel’s steel bridge links the two banks of the Yonne ansd this is also often covered in flowers! The church of St-Cyr and Sainte-Julitte is worth a visit. The parks of Colbert Castle and Montmorency Villa are lovely for a stroll. The national forest of Thureau du Bas is nearby. A popular town with fishermen.

This very pleasant mooring is great for perhaps your first overnight stop - pleasant and secure and with a well tended path you can cycle along to explore further along the canal.
You could easily miss this village as it's not immediately apparent from the canal, as its approximately 2kms inland. It's worth a stop though as it has a rich history and is well known for its restuarants, hotels and architecture.
This tiny village is situated on the banks of the River Yonne and might make a pleasant first night's stop or for yourlast night before returning to the base at Migennes. Stock up with food before leaving Migennes though as there are no shops here, other than a bakery.

Migennes is ideally situated at the start of the Canal de Bourgogne, the Rivers Yonne and Armançon. It has some pleasant public spaces, a supermarket handily placed for the base and a mainline railway station opposite, making it easy to access, or to explore further afield.
